Re: Public Displays of Affection at CoC colleges
I knew a man who swore he was expelled from Freed in the early 1950s for holding hands with his future wife. Hopefully he then enrolled in a better, state university where adult students were treated like adults. Did he say? He finished his education at Lipscomb and was a respected gospel preacher ...

Re: Public Displays of Affection at CoC colleges
As much as I am loathe to defend them the legal adult age back then was 21. I can understand why the administration and parents felt they had the right to have such rules. I get what you're saying, BH, but I bet they were still figuring out how to get together somehow. Nature always finds a way. :l...

Re: Public Displays of Affection at CoC colleges
I knew a man who swore he was expelled from Freed in the early 1950s for holding hands with his future wife. c I am sure it is true. In fact they were pretty strict about that kind of thing until very recently. Pensacola Christian College is the worst of all, it has separate stairways and parking l...

Public Displays of Affection at CoC colleges
I knew Freed Hardeman was strict but upon reading Greg Massey's book on the history of FHC (now FHU) I didn't realize how bad the place was. I believe it has liberalized somewhat in recent years as evidenced by the dress code changes. Here are some examples of the draconian perverted rules concernin...

Re: NB Hardeman accused of abusing male students at Freed Hardeman?
I got a copy of Greg Massey's book about this uproar at FHC and it has a terribly long discussion of this event. What started the controversy was one student told another about a rumor concerning NB Hardeman's daughter. The rumor was his daughter had eloped at the age of 17 because she "had to&...

Re: Do Black CoC's believe apostles are alive today
I live in Memphis TN and most of the formerly white CoC's have more than a token black membership. In general the hispanics have separate services in the buildings which are in Spanish. There are a number of CoC's in predominately black communities which appear to have almost no white representation...

Do Black CoC's believe apostles are alive today
Does anyone know if most black CoC's currently believe there are apostles living today? I read this was the main difference in black and white CoC's.

Re: Stained Glass Windows in CoC?
There was a big controversy over the Union Church of Christ constructing a building with classical type columns. It was viewed as too opulent and this was discussed in the Gospel Advocate. This occurred sometime around WW2. It apparently was part of a change in the CoC from being a pacifist apocalyp...

Re: Stained Glass Windows in CoC?
There was actually a big controversy over the design of the building of the CoC on Union Ave in Memphis TN. People felt the building was too opulent and not in the conservative traditions of the CoC.

Stained Glass Windows in CoC?
Are there any CoC's that have a stained glass window. I wonder if there are any stories about a CoC buying a building from another church and getting rid of them.
