Sermon begins with "This is not intended to scare children"

I found this fascinating sermon of "What is Hell Like" by Jimmy Allen. Allen came to regret it in his later years. Very telling is in his intro he says that it is not intended to scare children. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4teXOv53jc&t=2667s Most interesting to me is his descripti...

Re: Easter Posting/Zombie Passage Matthew 27:53

I don't remember the following passage ever being mentioned in the church of Christ but the one after is widely. Matthew 27:53; "At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened, and many bodies ...

Re: Easter Posting/Zombie Passage Matthew 27:53

I think the snake handling/poison thing is part of a later addition to Mark and was not in the original manuscript. Yes that is the academic consensus, that the passage was added later. However if the CoC admits there is a passage that is not correct or inspired it opens up a whole lot of others. T...

Re: Discussion about Billy Graham?

Here is a funny story I found almost certainly false! Guy Woods used to tell an interesting story about Billy Graham, which you probably won’t hear in the media. He suggested that, despite Billy Graham’s erroneous message, he would indeed be responsible for at least one soul going to heaven. Many ye...

Re: Discussion about Billy Graham?

Here is a somewhat fascinating discussion about Billy Graham, the CoC guy says he basically views Billy Graham as a false prophet and that it has been confirmed by biographers of Graham.

Discussion about Billy Graham?

What did you always hear discussed about Billy Graham? What I remember is CoC people were somewhat lukewarm to him. The biggest beef with him was saved by grace without baptism (which is not what he believed really). They said they had tried to discuss the topic with him and he refused. Billy Graham...

Re: What did your coC teach about the Trinity

What I remember is there was one God, but there was a Godhead composed of the father, son, and Holy Spirit. I do not remember if there was ever a distinction made between God and the Godhead. I don't remember the term Trinity ever being mentioned. There were attempts to explain the difference in the...

Israel and the 2nd coming.

I hear a lot of talk today about how strong fundamentalists/evangelicals support the state of Israel because it has to exist for the 2nd coming of Christ, but 50 years ago I never heard that kind of talk. What I remember is simply Jesus would come and people would be judged and taken to heaven or he...

Re: Changing Church of Christ!

What we knew as the "traditional" coC is vanishing at a pretty good clip. I'd give it maybe another 25 years and there will be few if any groups calling themselves coC that we would recognize from our experience with that name. The reality is that it is either evolve or go extinct. Those ...
