Proper clothing for preaching!

I was told in the older days (50's and 60's I guess) wearing a suit, particularly for preachers was absolutely mandatory. There was a story about Foy Wallace preaching in a hot church without air conditioning and he took his coat off much to the offense of many. Someone told the people knowing that ...

Re: Acts 2:38 - I finally understand

Mark Twain defined faith as "believing in something that you know is really not true". I heard that one from a CoC minister.

Re: Why is smoking/vaping a sin?

First please define for me what you consider to be a sin? Then we can discuss this issue. Saying that a practice is unhealthful is sinful seems somewhat ridiculous to me.

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

I will say this: when I was really heavily into it (the Christian faith in general, not specifically c/c), it seemed like the NT held abundant material for learning. It seemed magical, like you could look into it every day or several times a day and glean something new. I can understand what you ar...

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

[qI can understand your perspective given what I've heard you say about your "church". I'm not sure how one would unpack such learning, it's so adverse to Christianity, it's almost a hopeless endeavor, it would seem to me. [/quote] Its not "my church" it is my relatives, I just ...

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

Actually I think they are just trying to find something to talk about in their sermons. The New Testament really doesn't have much interesting, Can you imagine teaching just from the New Testament twice Sunday and also teaching classes on Sunday and Wednesday night like most preachers do for say 20-...

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

Lecture Sunday was about how Nehmiah fought his to develop a righteous nation. Tried to tie this to modern day Christianity. Really didn't make any sense.

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

Well Paul was really the founder of Christianity wasn't he? Jesus just wanted to reform Judaism until a new kingdom arrived.

Old Testament sermons predominate.

When I attend church with my mother (standard basic CoC church) I notice that 75% of the sermons come from the Old Testament, the other 25% are from the NT and some just general "make our church better" sermons. I find it curious that there is so little material in the NT that the preacher...
