Re: Recommendations CoC History Thanks

I knew some of them, then I found two websites that list these people and give descriptions of their experience. The websites are pretty easy to find with a google church. Let me know if you can't find them. It seems I hear Dwight Yokam talking about CoC all at the time during interviews. It is inte...

Re: Recommendations CoC History Thanks

Dwight Yokam talks quite frequently about his mother being CoC and going to church at Northland Church of Christ in Columbus, OH. Some other famed CoC late Fred Thompson the actor and senator, Randy Duke Cunningham, US house member convicted of bribery, Holly Dunn late country singer,David Duke pres...

Re: Smoking and the COC

A very few people smoke after services in the parking lot at my mothers church. Some old, some fairly young.

Recommendations CoC History Thanks

I want to thank people who gave me recommendations on books for CoC history. I read all or parts of several. By far the best was R.T Hughes Reviving the Ancient Faith. Hughes was a professor at Pepperdine but is now at David Lipscomb and claims to attend CoC. I will give you some impressions of what...

Re: Funny videos about Harding University

Yes, there are apparently many wealthy alumni. Freed Hardeman has a fundraiser where they bring in very famous speakers, usually TV personalities and movie stars. Several people in the last few years have been Glenn Beck, Gary Sinese, and Jeff Foxworthy as speakers. The FHU Annual Benefit Dinner is ...

Re: Funny videos about Harding University

Moogy: That is really interesting, I wondered why I had never heard anyone mention it before. However thinking about it the churches I know about in TN do not make direct contributions to the colleges, but they totally support them, David Lipscomb is regarded as too liberal in general, Freed Hardema...

Funny videos about Harding University

Here are links to some funny animated videos made by someone who attended Harding University emphasizing the ironies of some of their policies. Most of the people who told me stories about Christian Colleges attended Freed Hardeman (one story about people being disciplined for holding hands) which I...

Re: Unleavened unsalted bread for communion

I live in TN and to my knowledge there are no no cup churches here. My late father was heavily into church doctrine and I never heard him talk about any here. There is a big battle over how liberal churches are but none are what I would describe as NI. Hughes book says the one suppers and no Sunday ...

Re: Attended sister's pseudo liberal church

I forgot to add at my sister's church around Christmas time, they have a big Christmas tree in the auditorium with presents surrounding it.

Re: Best books on CoC history

I am reading Hughes book Reviving the Ancient Faith. It is really excellent. It sets the real beginning of the distinction between DoC and CoC at 1906 and goes into detail about the reasons for the split. A lot in the book about Foy Wallace, there was an interesting guy who was very abrasive. It is ...
