Re: Acts 2

Wow. That hypothesis would certainly raise the hackles of many a cofc. Paul's supposed writings were revered and seen as foundational to the whole cofc brand. But...who would have created Paul, and why? It is quite possible there were several people who did many of the things Paul did and they were...

Re: Acts 2

Absolutely we were taught that the Old Law was 'nailed to the Cross' and that everything UP TO that point was under the 'old law' (explains why Jesus was going to the Temple and talking about sacrifices and tithes). And THEN you had the 'new law' and Paul, Paul, Paul all over the place. If the NT w...

Preterism?

Preterism is the belief that many of the prophecies of the NT have already happened, like Revelation has already happened. I have heard that some CoC's are leaning in this direction. Does anyone else here have knowledge of this, it is quite interesting.

Acts 2

I have a view here I have never heard about what is taught in some CoC's. Has anyone else heard this? "Acts 2 is the hub of the Bible meaning that it’s the account of the beginning of the one true church, the primitive church, the first-century church, the New Testament church. The gospel accou...

Re: CoC disfellowships Disciples of Christ

That was pretty fast. I was told it was over instrumental music, but that seems too specific. Here is a link to the letter/address and good luck on understanding it. It seems the biggest amount of doctrinal hogwash anyone can imagine and is very bitter. There are a lot of vitally important issues h...

CoC disfellowships Disciples of Christ

Has anyone here heard about Daniel Sommer and his disfellowshiping of the Disciples of Christ in 1889. From Wikipedia: The Sand Creek Address and Declaration (1889) Sommer pushed for a division between the Churches of Christ and the Christian Church and when it took place celebrated by saying, "...

Re: Alarming developments in CoC Universities!

It’s interesting how things are changing at those schools. Tiffany Yecke Brooks speaking at Harding and sparking such strong reactions shows how challenging it can be when someone questions or expands traditional views in a religious setting. It makes me think about the conversations I’ve had with ...

Re: Disfellowship stories/issues?

I’ve heard about disfellowshipping practices in the CoC too, but it never happened at my church. It was always something discussed in sermons, and I knew of places where it was practiced, but it never really affected me personally. The whole debate about whether it’s biblical or not is interesting....

Different Bibles?

Does anyone ever remember anything being said in the CoC about Catholics, Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons using a different Bible (which of course they do). When I was growing up initially the KJV was really the only one widely used, then in the late 60's people started bringing the New American Stand...

Re: Knowledge of CoC preachers?

Most of the people in the pews believe in literal word-for-word, infallible inspiration, even though that is not the official doctrine of the United Methodist Church. This explains why it was so easy for negative influencers to split that church recently. [/quote] A preacher I knew in his lessons us...
