Re: Alarming developments in CoC Universities!
It’s interesting how things are changing at those schools. Tiffany Yecke Brooks speaking at Harding and sparking such strong reactions shows how challenging it can be when someone questions or expands traditional views in a religious setting. It makes me think about the conversations I’ve had with p...

Re: Divorce and remarriage?
In my time around the CoC, I noticed there were a lot of different takes on the whole divorce and remarriage thing. The adultery clause was always the key point for some, but it still felt like there were different levels of how strict people were about it. Some seemed to believe remarriage was basi...

Re: Any unmarried CoC ministers?
Yeah, it’s not common to see a CoC minister who isn’t married. In the cases I’ve seen or heard about, if a minister gets divorced because of adultery, it usually disqualifies them from leadership roles. I know a few who had affairs, and one of them ended up losing their position entirely. Another ma...

Re: Barton Stone on one loaf!
I see where Barton Stone is coming from with the idea of using one loaf in the Lord's Supper. It really emphasizes unity—the single loaf representing Christ's body, and by breaking it together, believers share in that one body. I think the point about unleavened bread makes sense too, symbolizing pu...

Re: Alexander Campbell
Sounds like you might be referring to The Life and Letters of Alexander Campbell by Robert Richardson. It was written in the late 1800s and has a lot of personal insights, since Richardson had connections to folks who knew Campbell well. I’ve looked into it myself, and it’s a solid read if you're af...

Re: Disfellowship stories/issues?
I’ve heard about disfellowshipping practices in the CoC too, but it never happened at my church. It was always something discussed in sermons, and I knew of places where it was practiced, but it never really affected me personally. The whole debate about whether it’s biblical or not is interesting. ...

Re: 24 hour and longer prayer sessions
I’ve never done a 24-hour prayer marathon, but I’ve heard from friends who have, and they said it can be really tough to stay focused, especially in the middle of the night. One friend mentioned that it helps when you’re part of a group, like during the daytime or early evening, because the energy k...

Re: What are preachers taught about gospel discrepancies?
I’ve definitely noticed that preachers in the CoC tend to focus on a more unified story rather than diving into the differences between the gospels. In my experience, when I’ve attended Bible classes or listened to sermons, the discrepancies are either briefly acknowledged or avoided to keep the mes...

Re: Inspiration and Innerancy origins?
The ideas of biblical inspiration and inerrancy come from theological beliefs that the Bible is divinely inspired and without error in its teachings. The concept of inspiration is based on passages like 2 Timothy 3:16, which says all Scripture is "God-breathed." Inerrancy usually ties in w...

Re: Knowledge of CoC preachers?
Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing. A lot of those post-resurrection moments, like Jesus eating or the "zombie" thing, aren't really discussed much in church, which is odd considering how interesting they are. It makes me wonder if preachers avoid certain details because they don’t want to ...
