Re: Oh, golly

Yes. My family got our huge green rear wheel drive station wagon stuck in the snow countless times trying to make it to Church when I was growing up (even with snow tires and sometimes chains). It was a badge of honor. You simply cannot miss the weekly traditional lords supper. I think it was more a...

Re: Saved by grace

It's like a dog frantically chasing its tail while slowly losing hope over time in ever catching it.

Re: Down the Rabbit Hole

Would hardline coc'ers listen to Campell if he returned today? I've always wondered if they would actually listen to Paul or even Jesus if they returned. They would just want to argue with them (of course using BCV).

Re: example of Church of Christ silliness

This thread alone proves that no one can get it perfectly 'right'. Especially not the members within the coc.

Re: The Lord's Work

I once made the mistake of telling the elders that the church should be run more like a business especially regarding finances. They lost it. Specifically one elder; he yelled "the church is not a business". Thought I was going to need to find him a defibrillator. It's ironic how they do r...

If they tell you to have an 'open mind' then obviously theirs is closed!

Re: That Time of Year Again

My Mother loves Christmas so we celebrated it each year. Just don't tell the Church members. We could be disbarred. Even when I was just 5 years old I thought that was super hypocritical and it just didn't make since. I even learned that 2 out of our 3 elders had Christmas trees at home yet heavily ...

Re: CoC doctrine on authority is highly inconsistent

They vehemently follow Jesus Christ although Jesus lived his entire life within the Old Testament and under the Old Law. It has always seemed ironic to me that they don't discount his entire life and testimony. Just like the thief on the cross who was saved under the Old Law (as they like to argue)....

Re: Were you chastised for marrying outside the church?

I didn't. I was a good boy. I successfully converted a catholic girl when we were dating. However, she grew up super conservative catholic so the leap to the coc was not really that huge. The first thing she said when she attended her first coc 'worship' service was why do they need to know where ev...

The old guard is slowly going away

My sister texted me this morning that our childhood and teenage years Preacher & Elder just passed away at 92 years old. Last year one of our Elders from that era also passed away. They are slowly but surely leaving us. They were nice/caring guys in a way although they were super hard line &...
