Re: So, some Jehovah's witness knocked on my door...

I just wish the comedian George Carlin who had strong views on religion and the existence of God could rise from the dead and tell us clearly & bluntly exactly whats on the other side. He's either dead all over like Rover or he had the shock of his life when he died.

Re: Church Discipline

Ascentionist's former coC seems to think they are perfect without error and in full fellowship w/God. All coC's need an independent audit in order to determine if they are practicing 'the Truth'. Like an accounting audit, bring in an outside unbiased firm to compare scripture with the practices of a...

Where's the coC at the County Fair?

My local Fair is in full swing and several local churches have booths promoting themselves. Gideons even has a booth handing out Bibles. So where is the coC? If they need and want to grow they should be there. If they are the only ones who are right they should definitely be there. As I think of it,...

Re: Average Joe becomes an Elder

I asked my Grandfather the long time elder, if breaking bread before one partakes was biblically required. To my total surprise he said No. He thought the men who lead the Lord's Supper physically broke the bread 'just to be safe'.

Re: The "Pattern" and "Ministers"

So if they qualify as an Elder then we can call them 'Pastor' correct? Of course not, even when biblical it's against the teachings of the coC and they are the final authority (on everything).

Re: The "Pattern" and "Ministers"

Fellow Traveler; I totally agree with your assessment. I too have asked those questions many, many times. I was told a ‘laborer is worthy of his wages’. I was also told that we need someone who works full time on ‘the work of the Church’. Yes, you are correct that they are Pastors (they have no good...

Re: Church Discipline

Why does there need to be a formal written letter & public reading? Where is that in the Bible? We’ve all sat through those public letter readings and I just never understood why. It seems like it was simply to justify the elders and their actions. It also seemed to help prove their authority (a...

Re: Trying to enjoy services

I really tried sooo hard to enjoy the services. Since coC preachers & elders don’t like to preach on or discuss Bible application to everyday life one can only get so much enjoyment out of constantly studying Bible history. Essentially, coC services are comprised of history lessons and bashing o...

Re: same-sex marriage

I have had both good & bad experiences w/same sex couples who are married and with those who were not. I know of a few married same sex couples in my neighborhood who are super nice and generally keep to themselves. They also keep their homes and property in perfect condition. However, I have ha...

Re: Differences between black and white CoC's

In the upper Midwest where I grew up we had 3 white (sound) coC congregations and 1 black (sound) coC congregation. When the black congregates would assemble at my church (like for a singing on a Friday night) the white people seemed to be absolutely scared and not really sure what to do. The older ...
