Re: Field Report: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I joined the DOC church we have been attending. Today is the first day of Advent. We were aked to do a reading and light the first candle. It was such a neat experience! I really think I will get a lot more out of the Christmas season now. It will focus on a lot...

Re: COC thoughts as a kid

I was just discussing this with my husband this morning. I was thinking about how my mother frightened me about my friends who belonged to other denominations. I had a friend in the 2nd grade who was a Catholic and my mother said that Catholics pray using beads, like that was really horrible thing. ...

Re: Non-negative, happy memories

I met my husband at church, so that is my best memory. Also, a big thing would be the good pot lucks and lots of food oriented activities. And when I had major surgery, people brought food every day for a week. There were some good times at small groups.

Re: Bible Studies All The Time

Did any of you have parents that did home Bible studies? My parents tried that some, but it didn't last long. I hated doing that.

Re: Field Report: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

B.H., yes, everyone in the class was given a copy of the book, "A Handbook for Today's Disciples". I assume the split in the '30's brought about the Independent Christian Church and the DoC. We are learning about the history. The Disciples are focused more on unity and having an open commu...

Re: Field Report: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

My husband and I are currently attending a Sunday School class that is for people new to the DoC. The minister is discussing the history and beliefs of DoC. It is very interesting and enjoyable. I am more and more convinced this is the right place for me!

Re: Wednesday Nights

I am so glad those days are behind me. I go to church on Sunday mornings and to small group once a month. That is enough! For years, my husband insisted on taking our kids to all 3 services every week because it would teach them that it was important and that is how he was raised. Well, that did not...

Re: Heaven and Hell, or where do we go from here?

Growing up in the CofC, I was always taught it was like in the rich man and Lazarus parable. You went to a waiting place for heaven or a waiting place for hell. This makes no sense, though, because you are already judged, if this is true. And, to me, the thing that really makes no sense is that if a...

Re: Child of the CoC

Welcome! I am in my 50's and spent my whole life in the CofC. Just left a couple months ago and am attending a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). I understand about the feelings of really being saved by faith. I think that is why there are so many rebaptisms in the CofC. They don't have the cor...
