Re: Israel and the 2nd coming.
This is the very reason President Jimmy Carter worked so hard to make peace between Israel and Egypt. Bless his soul, he sincerely believed he was helping usher in Christ's return.

Re: A Question for Agricola
Personally, I like the "I am what I will be." rendering. To me that speaks to the unchanging character and nature of G_d. Only G_d exists on the single plane of actuality. We and everything else in the universe is in constant transition so we exist on two planes, actuality and potentiality...

Re: A Question for Agricola
OK, I read once in a Jewish commentary concerning the place in Exodus where Moses is before the burning bush and asks G_d's name and the reply in the KJV is "I am that I am." That according to Hebrew scholars that would have been better rendered as "I am what I will be." Don't as...

Re: A Question for Agricola
That is a lovely prayer. Thank you for explaining. Also, please forgive my misspelling. I have a dear friend who is Jewish; his grandparents, on both his father and his mother's sides, emigrated to the U.S. from Russia before the Bolsheviks took over. I've heard him speak of saying kaddish for his p...

Re: A Question for Agricola
I have another question about Jewish practices. Do women say kadesh for their dead loved ones or is that something only men do?

Where do they get enough French speakers in Nashville? Can't be from France. What am I missing? I thought immigrants were mostly Hispanics and a lot of Koreans or something. There is a fairly large Laotian community in Nashville. Most of them speak French. I knew a Laotian refugee a lifetime ago who...

Re: A Question for Agricola
While I am picking your brain, I'll ask about an unrelated question. I've been reading again about Kabbalah. In your opinion, would it be fair to say that Chochmah is the equivalent of a priori knowledge while Da'at is equivalent to a posteriori knowledge? Most of Kabbalah is way too deep or perhaps...

Re: A Question for Agricola
So, then, do I interpret your words correctly that most modern Jews don't expect the temple to be rebuilt until after the messiah comes? Or is it the belief that rebuilding the temple will trigger the messiah's appearing? Are there Jews left who can reliably trace their genealogy back to Aaron so th...

Re: Changing Church of Christ!
What we knew as the "traditional" coC is vanishing at a pretty good clip. I'd give it maybe another 25 years and there will be few if any groups calling themselves coC that we would recognize from our experience with that name. The reality is that it is either evolve or go extinct. Those ...

Re: A Question for Agricola
Thank you for investing your time in such an in-depth answer to my questions. I genuinely appreciate it. I exactly "get" what you are saying about Herod's temple replacing Ezra's but at the same time technically being the same. I had some friends who bought an old farm house and wanted to ...
