Re: Ehrman and Strauss's books
There are versions of the book of Esther that has chapters in them not in the Bibles we knew growing up. It has God involved in the planning behind the scenes and explains God's role. It bothers me that the Bible has been edited and changed. You can't prove what is supposed to be there if anything ...

Re: Ehrman and Strauss's books
I always thought it strange that Saul would name his son Ishba'al when Saul, though messing up a lot, never in the Bible worshiped any god but God. I think Saul and Ishba'al if they existed were probably pagan kings retroactively portrayed as God worshippers. Another thing, David is portrayed as ju...

Re: Pre WW2 CoC
In the very earliest days of my CoC preaching I encountered a few old-timers who had come up in that era. From what I gathered it was indeed transitional. They loved the added services - more chances to preach. But what they really always wanted to talk about was how Gospel Meetings could go every ...

Re: Pre WW2 CoC
I've heard many older people say that before WWII the coC only had one Sunday morning worship assembly. The Sunday evening or night assemblies were started during the war because many people had to work on Sunday to support the war effort. So, to accommodate these people the evening service was adop...

Re: And even another old-timer
Hello, AC, it has been a long time. I do hope you decide to spend some time here. Your perception of the atmosphere is correct; it is a much nicer place these days.

Re: Hewlett packard
What a nice trip, Agri!! I miss having elderly relatives, as most or all have now passed. Now my cousin peers and I ARE the elderly relatives. That's my family. I have one aunt left on my father's side. She was the baby of her family and I have a cousin, her niece, who is only a year younger than s...

Re: Someone who fired you needs help
It would depend entirely on the circumstances of the "firing". Was it unfair or was it for legitimate cause. Was it the first resort or did they try to avoid it with other actions first? More importantly, how have they treated me over the years since? I've been let go 3 times over my worki...

Re: Similarities/Differences in CoC and Primitive Baptists
Forgive me for asking something that is sort of off the topic of the original post but, Is First Baptist an individual denomination unto its self? Every town that I know of has a First Baptist church among the other Baptist churches such as Missionary, and General.
