Re: Knowledge of CoC preachers?
How many others heard the Gospel described as: facts to be believed, commands to be obeyed, and promises to be received? Working within that framework, the Gospels become facts to be believed. They are taken at face value and the preaching quickly passes on to other talking points. I don't think mo...

Re: Knowledge of CoC preachers?
The sad reality is that in the coC the gospels aren't of much importance not even the crucifixion and resurrection. The total emphasis was always on Paul's letters. EVERYTHING else took a back seat to the writings of Paul. Honestly, if they thought they could get away with it they would rename the d...

Re: Smoking and the COC
I liked to smoke that sticky green ill shit when I was cOC Do tell??? I got in trouble more than once for asking "based on Genesis chapter one where God tells man that HE gives him every seed bearing herb for his use, how can we justify outlawing something God gave us?" I never really got...

Re: Alarming developments in CoC Universities!
I read about two events occurring at CoC Universities that I consider both very revolutionary in different ways. First is a woman spoke at chapel at Harding Univesity, some considered her talk heretical. Her name is Tiffany Yecke Brooks, author of several books you can find at Amazon, there is not ...

Re: Any unmarried CoC ministers?
I remember one who did not marry until he was in his mid 40s. And he married a woman who was 8-10 years older than him. I think his home church was in East Tennessee but he did Gospel Meetings in Kentucky and West Virginia with some regularity. I've seen more than a few congregations where, if some...

Re: Original Version of Bible?
Yes all our preachers graduated from college - granted, colleges like Freed Hardeman, Harding and Lipscomb, but still - college educated, seminary educated - even the songleaders were often graduates of CoC colleges. It was so reassuring to know our spiritual leaders were educated and trained etc.....

Re: Inspiration and Innerancy origins?
It seems to me that the understanding in the first century as to the nature of Christianity, whether it was simply reformed Judaism, or an altogether new religion or how we might view it today, is irrelevant to the original question as to the origin of the concept of the inspiration and inerrancy of...

Re: Inspiration and Innerancy origins?
Where do the concepts of inspiration of the Bible and inerrancy of the Bible come from. And do they apply to both OT and NT? II Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" KJV T...
