Re: Another Question about NICOC
From what I have read on here, is it true that you can’t have weddings in the church building? My parents’s NICOC allowed weddings, but my mother was convinced it was not a scriptural use of the building. I doubt that she was the only one who thought this. She might have been influenced by her brot...

Re: cofc dreams....
Do you ever have dreams about the cofc? I had one last night that I am trying to remember. It seems there were several old school preachers I had known in the past....it's very vague now but I thought this would be an interesting topic and maybe help me to remember. Oh, yes, I have COC dreams. Do n...

Re: We are the only way and there is no other way
My parents’ NICOC had a preacher who was a high-school drop-out. Strangely enough, he was one of the better COC preachers I have heard. Perhaps he was self-educated. His sermons had the usual COC proof-texting and formulas for salvation, but his grammar was fine, and he had good presentation skills.

Re: Introductions
Hi, Joshua, and welcome! So they waited over 2 years to withdraw from you? That sounds weird. Were you in a relatively mainline COC or in one of the splinter groups? I was non-institutional aka “anti” aka NICOC. I homeschooled my son, but fortunately for him, I had already left the COC. So despite r...

Re: Church publishes email/phone of couple from another chur
That is SO crazy and out of bounds, Lerk. But not too surprising, considering the other craziness we have seen. I do think you should invite them onto this site, if you can do so in a way that doesn’t come back to bite you. There is also a COC to Catholic site, but I don’t know where to find it. I a...

Re: We are the only way and there is no other way
At some cofc places I know, the speakers were pretty close to illiterate and had no notion of critical thinking, logical argument, or skills in presentation of an argument. Yet it seems that these places talked the most about the need for attending all assembly and the need for constant Bible study...

Book Review: The Fabricated Paul, by Hermann Detering
Please note that I intentionally placed this post in Tea House, because I don’t want arguments. Discussion is fine, but if you have strong opinions, keep it pleasant. I decided to read this book that was recommended by Cootie Brown aka Geezer. (I will pm him so he can participate in this thread, sin...

Re: Are There More Words Besides "Ludicrous" or "Absurd"?
We have drifted far afield from the original post, and now an issue arises that has been discussed over and over and over... This is the agreement and support section of the board, so I think this discussion is ready to come to a close now, before disagreements and non-support have the opportunity t...

Re: Holy Spirit IS the Bible
Regarding the current activities of the Spirit: Romans 8:26-27 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27 And God, who searches the heart, knows wha...
