Your COC required "good works"? You mean visiting the backsliders to encourage them to return to the fold (at the next appointed time)?

The COC doctrine that I was taught was like a jigsaw puzzle. Take one verse and see if you can somehow make it fit with another verse. Repeat until you get what appears to you to be a clear picture, but what looks to outsiders to be a mess.

If Rickey Jenkins preached at one congregation, it has to be the more conservative one, and therefore the "faithful, true NICOC" ! I love Rickey (he's a cousin), but he sticks hard and fast to the NI doctrine of my youth. He also preached me and half the audience into hell at my grandmothe...

We left between finishing our formal education and children. But since we were slow, that put us into our 30s. I am grateful I left before having a child. Said child is probably grateful also.

I guess I was lucky to be in the NICOC. There were fewer congregations nearby, so fewer gospel meetings to visit!
