Re: songs about leaving the coc

I'm Free--The Who I'M FREE- I'm free, And freedom tastes of reality, I'm free-I'm free, AN' I'm waiting for you to follow me. If I told you what it takes to reach the highest high, You'd laugh and say 'nothing's that simple' But you've been told many times before Messiahs pointed to the door And no ...

Re: COC History of the Church Timeline

Here it is, skitty: http://charlesdailey.net/churchhistoryrev2-11.pdf My thought about it is that it is myopic, delusional, and just plain wrong. Clearly, the CoC actually started in the 1800's as a branch off the Stone-Campbell movement. That must be an old chart. It shows the United Brethren and ...

Welcome back to our board. Sorry your kids have to experience this, but at least they hate it instead of liking it! That means you are doing something right.

I will grant him the right to say it is not a sacrament to him or to other Catholics. But I thought God is supposed to be omnipresent as well as omnipotent. :o

Re: Church Hymns (and Hers) That Got on Your Nerves

By the time all four parts are added you've got a cacophony of sounds that, to me at least, can only be navigated by shutting off my ears and concentrating on what I'm "supposed" to be singing. Not exactly the most edifying of activities. I can still hear those tenors singing, nay, shouti...

Re: Did Your Congregation Have One?

SCREECH OWL. The guy who loves to lead singing, but he sounds terrible. Always willing, so he leads far too often. May also be a Deacon, so that gets him more gigs. AXE MAN. Comes to business meetings with an axe to grind. Argues about both major and minor issues. Talks about things that happened in...

Re: Introduction

Welcome. You are among friends. You might want to check out http://www.reveal.com Itis for people who have left the ICOC or Boston movement COC. That splinter group is even crazier than most other COCs. There are cult-like aspects in many COCs, but the ICOC groups have even more.

Re: Bible Versions/Translations

We had and used lots of different versions, and no one seemed to care. Of course, there were the usual arguments about which version was translated best if it made a difference to COC doctrine. I remember arguments about the critical difference in meaning between the English words "as" and...
