Soladude,
At least you and I are not estranged from our offspring. That would be worse.

Re: Happy Sunday!
Sola, tell me more about that "hidden emptiness" in us older parents....what do you mean? I don't think I feel a hidden emptiness, but maybe you can explain more about that. I was simply referencing those who didn't end up as close to their adult kids as yourself, i.e. those who wish for ...

Re: Moving Forward
He also let me know that if you're on an airplane going down and the person next to you confesses Jesus as Lord, he or she is going to Hell since there's no place to perform a water baptism. I remember him being from a southern state. I've met some idiots from the CofC, but he is in the Hall of Fam...

Re: Moving Forward
But, of course, in their own minds they pass Christianity with an A+. I remember speaking with a CofC preacher online who taught "prospective" Christians intensely on water baptism for several days before the baptism, you know, what it really means, what they are really doing, etc. Then a...

Happy Sunday!
Every week it is a happy Sunday for me because I no longer have to drag myself to the local COC to hear a depressing, too-long sermon, then repeat the process again that evening. I hope your Sunday is equally happy, despite our very strange and challenging year.

Re: Completely shunned by lifelong friends
My husband and I lost a group of close friends when we left the COC. There were a very few who exercised their own judgment and continued to see us. Disfellowshipping is their doctrine, and a sign of their cult-like community.

Female COC preacher
“one of the most restrictive Christian groups relative to women and girls in the church. Its congregations make up most of the 1-4% of U.S. Christianity completely excluding women and girls from speaking, leading, and otherwise publicly and actively serving in any way during its worship services. “I...

Re: Ready to Recover
BabyNurse, I am glad you found us. Your story reminds me of all the pain I have seen and experienced due to my very rigid, non-institutional (anti) COC. I left many years ago, and in retrospect, so much of the COC was absurd. I am glad you found a partner you love, and that you have 4 wonderful chil...

Re: About to leave the CoC
There are many churches that focus on the love of God. A few of them may be churches of Christ. But you will have better luck with other denominations. I suggest visits to the Disciples of Christ if you want church to feel familiar. I am 67, and between churches. I keep thinking, “Why do I have to g...

Re: Squirrels Eating Car Wires
We live in the country, along with lots of critters. My old Honda’s headlights were getting brighter and dimmer for no clear reason. Yep, it was squirrel damage to the wiring.
