Re: The Handmaid’s Tale

I just started watching it recently. Definitely gives you an uneasy feeling, even though it's very well done. I just got through the episode where she finds out what the Latin in her closet means.

Re: Held hostage

I was just talking to a coc person on the phone, and I told her that the God presented by the coc seemed more like an abusive husband. But yes, I feel so much more free having left the church. When I think about the Bible story at a high level, it just sounds ridiculous. God created man, purposely s...

Re: Leaving COC Bingo

People are hurt because I left instead of going to talk to someone about my doubts. After 20 years, I could totally just talk to myself as a coc person would. I know the script. I know the prooftexts to use as argumentation. So no, I don't want to talk to a coc person! I don't want to be brou...

Re: Leaving COC Bingo

Had a brief text discussion with one lady this morning. She's the only one that has contacted me since last night's announcement, surprisingly. She's being friendly and such, but boy does she want to bring me back. I had to tell her that she really didn't want to go to the depths that my problems we...

  • Muscle and a Shovel reference
If you're not familiar with that book, here's a good review from a progressive coc elder who goes into great detail about the book:

Re: Leaving COC Bingo

I got a variation of this in a note from a childhood "friend", describing how she saw me: ◄ Jude 1:13 ► New International Version They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. Lovely. Nice. And I guess...

Leaving COC Bingo

As I embark on the journey away from the coc (elders are about to announce it Sunday), I was thinking about all the things I have heard so far and/or expect to hear from members hearing about my leaving. Here's a few. Feel free to add your own! :) Prodigal son reference Question about which doctrina...

Re: Renoir here

I happened to find it just over a year ago when I was thinking about leaving the coc. So glad it's here! Very helpful to find I'm not alone.

Re: It used to be easy

I'm not tech savvy. What do I need to do in order to get email notifications for a particular thread that I want to follow? Is there a button for that on the thread? If you scroll down to the bottom of the thread screen, there is a blue section below the who's online section, and there is a "s...
