Re: Acts 2

Wow. That hypothesis would certainly raise the hackles of many a cofc. Paul's supposed writings were revered and seen as foundational to the whole cofc brand. But...who would have created Paul, and why?

Re: Acts 2

Hadn't heard that view, but I've been long out of cofc. I do remember Acts 2:38 being kind of elevated. So as Agri said, maybe that piece was just unspoken because they didn't dare. Sounds like some heresy right there.

Right. They didn't believe in a "rapture" as it's being taught today by a lot of churches.

Re: Preterism?

Preterism is the belief that many of the prophecies of the NT have already happened, like Revelation has already happened. I have heard that some CoC's are leaning in this direction. Does anyone else here have knowledge of this, it is quite interesting. Yes, I believe the cofcs of my early life did...

Re: 24 hour and longer prayer sessions

I have never seen a CoC have a prayer service or vigil of any kind. My experience of the CoC was that prayer was the most minimal part of the service. Shane, I'm not sure they really believed in prayer, or thought it did any good. TBH, I'm not even sure they believed anything supernaturally oriente...

Re: Always a Taoist

Ascensionist, that's great!! I'd also suggest The Tao of Physics by Capra as a good read for helping one deconstruct from cofc-ness, although I bet you've already read it.

I'd be interested in hearing about how you see Taoism melding with cofc dogma.

If you reach age 30 without marrying, you have committed an unpardonable sin in the coC.
Wow...I made it just under the wire at 29!!! 🤣

Unfortunately, I do know what that is from watching
the Vikings series. So you're right; I would put a stop
to barbarism like that.
