Re: Pepperdine University is a coc University?

I believe a big part of the problem with Pepperdine has to do with its location. California was bad enough as we all know it is "Sin Central" but when they built the new campus just barely off the beach in Malibu their "wayward people" reputation was sealed. Sharing a zip code wi...

Yes, he was. Unfortunately, we lost him last August to the same Alzheimer's that took Mom. :(

Re: Being preached into hell at cofc funeral.....

When my Mother finally passed away twenty-one years after Dad did, we honored her request that the same "minister" do her funeral eulogy. My oldest brother had a very short meeting with him and told him in no uncertain terms that he would speak only about her life and not dare go into one ...

Re: Pepperdine University is a coc University?

It was always considered to be associated with the coc, but clear back in the early 1970's even, it was never seen as a "true brotherhood" college by most "less than progressive" congregations. The congregation I grew up in refused to even consider it as an "acceptable"...

Re: Incomplete

The "Preached into hell at a coc funeral" topic really belongs in this forum but it's over in the Coffee House where I'm sure no one would expect to find it, much less go looking for it. What!!!??? Well, I was just thinking that if we were all sitting at a coffee shop together that could ...

Re: Incomplete

What doesn't help any in adding to the confusion is threads being started in various forums where they really shouldn't be. The "Preached into hell at a coc funeral" topic really belongs in this forum but it's over in the Coffee House where I'm sure no one would expect to find it, much les...

Re: Being preached into hell at cofc funeral.....

This is a very touchy subject for me. I lost my Dad when I was only 26 and will never ever forget how the "minister" took off at one point during his funeral sermon and took it upon himself to relate a very private conversation with Dad a few weeks before he died about how he had only one ...

Re: Lingering doubts

Hebrews 10:25 immediately comes to mind. :D That passage has been twisted so much by the cOC, it is barely recognizable anymore. And of course, that one (along with countless others) has an asterisk by it. With the asterisk meaning "does not apply to anyone related to an elder, preacher, or ot...

Re: Struggling to Let Go...Struggling to Forgive

Forgiveness doesn't mean the hurt and memories go away, but it does create the ability to move forward. It also tends to reduce any remaining anger to a manageable level. Each person has to find their own way to forgive. For me, it was sitting by myself in the back row of the empty cavernous auditor...

Re: Survey: How old were you when you left the COC?

I began my exit at seventeen by making sure the grocery store I was working at in high school started scheduling me on Wednesday nights and a shift every Sunday that made it impossible to hit either service. My first two years of college I was still living at home but my parents were retired and tra...
