Re: Public shaming
The sermon that starts out with "where were you Wednesday night"? "Where were you Sunday night?" "Hebrews 10:25 Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves..." and all the Pharisee gibberish. That was from a sermon I remember years ago. Let's guilt everyone to come to ev...

Re: Reverse consequences of withdrawal of fellowship
Yes! When I left the cOC the first time back in 1997 or so, my mom was by herself. My late father wasn't going then. He didn't start attending until 1999 and he didn't get baptized and become a member until 2000. My brother had long since quit attending. And then I got "pulled away" as th...

Re: Churches of Christ - graying instead of growing
The author makes an interesting point and states no one in the 1st century church invited someone to church to convert them. A good point, but there is many more things that the COC participates in that are not mentioned in the new testament, such as using song leaders in a worship service and placi...

Re: Liberal c of C Congregations
There was a time when I would have been appalled by all of that too, so I understand their concern. When they asked my wife where we were attending now and she told them that she was attending the Methodist Church. Their mouths dropped open. Then they smiled and walked away without further comment....

Re: Crazy things that happened at the building
It was sitting right there in the front section of the fridge. I filled the cups and put the trays in the fridge for Sunday services. After service several people comments that the cup tasted a little odd. Upon further investigation it was determined I’d used a jar containing grape kool aid. I’m pr...

Re: Anyone familiar with these lunatics?
I have watched some of his videos in the past and they are all hard for me to watch because of his pharisee attitude, which is the main reason the coc is in decline. In typical coc fashion, numerous videos are talking about baptists . His videos are a textbook case of coc Bible bullying, arrog...

Re: CoC congregational splits
I witnessed 2 splits by the age of 13, and by splits I mean half of the church leaving to start another church. The 1st one we stayed, and the 2nd one we left to launch a new church of disgruntled members. Big drama Sunday, arguing, pissed off people, people getting told off, very ugly. I would also...

Re: Before Campbell ? Rumney Marsh and Bow Lane
I am seeing several hard-line coc post assertions that they existed prior to Alexander Campbell in the 1800s They site two groups that merely made mention of the Church of Christ” but I suspect they would have damned those groups to hell. Rumney Marsh - 1710 Bow lane 1500s http://churches-of-christ...

Re: Attendance monitors
The only suggestion I have as to how you can get her to stop is tell her how you truly feel about her checking up on you. It may hurt her feelings, just be polite as possible and clear about the point you make. As far as Hebrews 10:25, the coc uses it wrongly, mainly to bully members into attendance...
