How to leave the COC?
Leaving the COC can be a long and messy process for a lot of people. I've heard too many stories of people leaving in a that I wouldn't really call healthy or productive. What are your tips for someone trying to leave the COC, but minimize the potential emotional and relationship stress of it all? W...

Re: Repression in the CofC
(there was always a rumor when I was a kid that CofC people had more mental illness than any other group, and I'm not sure that is not too far off the mark)? I've read somewhere that belief in a punitive deity has negative consequences in mental and emotional health, and that belief and religious p...

Re: Actually, It's Based on Humanism
The more I hear myself talk, the more I think I sound like a Calvinist. I know I'm not, but it makes me cringe every time

Funniest/most absurd COC College stories
I spoke to an exCoC member who went to Florida College, probably in the late '60s or early '70s. He told me about how he went on a double date, (because that was required of them) and came back to have his first beer in the top floor of Boswell (?) hall. I thought it was hilarious that they got away...

Re: Status of David Lipscomb University?
I have heard folks say that they don't consider DLU to be a "mainstream Church of Christ" university anymore. Is this true? If so, what exactly happened? And when? Because when I graduated in 1983, it was definitely COC to the core! I would agree with what you've heard. I think they hold ...

Re: Hey Everyone
Glad to hear you've escaped. Welcome to reality and sanity. I'm a none, but my wife is a Methodist. They're pretty cool and most importantly they aren't legalistic...and the music in their services is spectacular. 8-) This is a good place to be for those exiting the c of C. Lots of good info on thi...

Hey Everyone
I just wanted to say I'm glad to find this forum. I'm currently working towards being officially "Ex-coC", but it's been a long process. I grew up in a non-institutional, no kitchens, Florida College supporting church. I've been an undercover Ex-coC for 2-3 years now, after being an underc...
