Re: Ridiculous reasons for splits....
I've been an atheist for 10 years now and I'm STILL a member of an NI-CoC. *sigh* I'm sorry, Lerk. That has to be really soul-draining. Do you have any plan for when you can leave? Probably never. I have a son who's a minister and we had quite a disagreement last year. We worked it out and are on g...

Re: Ridiculous reasons for splits....
Do many or most CofCs still use the old song books and sing songs written in the early 1900's? Having a praise team is tantamount to mere "entertainment" in their minds, as I understand it, and therefore condemns you to hell. Is that correct? But isolating themselves into a corner of comp...

Re: Anti churches
Isn't it interesting that they would call themselves "anti" when that's not in scripture. Or curious that they would call themselves "non-institutional" when that terminology similarly is not in those scriptures they worship obsessively. Sola, actually they don't call themselves...

Re: I'm ex-CoC and atheist
It took me until age 52 to figure it out! But it's been 10 years now, end of January through early February 2012, when it all became obvious.
And yet, it's still affecting you. I guess I won't be too hard on myself, then.
Welcome aboard, and looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: Anti churches
The "anti" churches refer to themselves as "non-institutional". But there are also, as Ivy said, "one cup" churches where they literally all drink from the same cup for the Lord's Supper. Except I heard of a "one cup" church in Lufkin, Texas that, in the 1950s...

Re: .
Generally, the saying is that you pick yourself up by your own bootstraps. That saying evolved into the "bootstrap loader", a computer program that loads itself. Generally speaking, that program is going to be an operating system. I used to work on a Honeywell 4400 mini-computer, and to bo...

Re: Typical! "RIP"
I do outwardly condem the CoC denomination. There are a few Christians there. The general group and attitude is the reason why prayers are noy answered there. Even if one were stuck over the head with an answer to it would not be recognized. God today answers prayers un simple ways. It can be by ch...

Typical! "RIP"
Here's a blog post today from someone on a mostly CoC blogging site. The founder of the site intended for it to be, and really tried to make it a diverse place. He isn't in the CoC anymore, but most of his college friends were at the time (maybe 20 years ago now!), and later their parents' -- includ...
