Re: Public shaming

So the congregation I grew up in, I hadn't been around for the better part of a year with any consistency. Mostly due to work and distance from said job with traffic, plus I'd grown to like the freedom of being away from some of them. One afternoon I get a phone call from the person taking care of w...

Re: Church of Christ folks don’t get it

I sort of keep up with the c of C membership issues. In a nut shell, according to their own figures, their long term survival is in doubt. In a lot of online debates (at least) the claim for the antis and ultra cons is that even though it "appears" to be dying in the US, it's growing by t...

Re: coc re-branding?

Yes, NICOC uses the term "evangelist" instead of pastor. Never use the word "pastor" with them!! As far as the term "undenominational", have never heard them use that; sounds suspicious. They could be going lib'rul. I think this may be because there are so ...

Re: Meeting 5 out of 7 nights each week

You're right. I know some rabid C of C'ers who salivate with excitement over every extra service, Bible study, devotional, etc. Most, of course, do have lives outside church, but for those "faithful" few, any extra time together is exciting for them. Cultish. It really is cultish. None of...

Re: Stopped going 5 months ago and crickets...

This is strange. To be honest, I don't think I have ever heard of a situation where someone stopped attending a cOC and didn't hear a peep from anyone. Shit, I got hounded day and night even when I was still attending. If I missed a service here or there (and I rarely ever missed) my phone blew up ...

Re: Valentine's Day date suggestions

Ugh...had to film a project in a treatment facility once. It was hard to keep a straight face over the smell and noise.

The producer had friends who worked there, so that's how he got clearance on short notice for the project. It went a lot of places, but filming it was rough.

Re: Things you don't miss about the c of c

They are unaware of how insulting that is from God's perspective. That was one concept that always bugged me. With 1 Corinthians 6, it seems like they stop in the first third of verse 2 and ignore everything else after that where Paul is calling those judgmental attitudes to shame them. He spends a...

Re: Stopped going 5 months ago and crickets...

That's good you were able to tell them in your own time and in established new community. Not as much as I was hoping. It was somewhat forced. Ironically, my parents haven't had as much of a problem visiting churches for cousins who were never coC for certain events. Do you still have a good relati...

Re: Stopped going 5 months ago and crickets...

Now I'm thankful for not being hounded by the elders and church members like some of you were. That is a good thing. So good for you getting away from the stress. Just sorry you haven't heard from anyone, that's almost harder without it. But over time it'll get better. That's how it was for me; sti...

Re: Appearances

Thanks. It's surprising I can even see straight at the moment. Almost missed a deadline on a paper this week in addition to some other problems. I have a personal bone to pick with the Mormons. Most Mormons are nice people but unaware of their history. The Book of Abraham attached to the Pearl of Gr...
