Glad you're here! I don't know much about the ICOC, but I've heard horror stories.

Re: Introducing myself
I went from CoC to DoC where I have been (mostly) happily ensconced ever since. I'm a very irregular attender at this point, merely because I don't like giving up that part of my Sunday. But I have always and still do love, love, love every single sermon...it is an enlightening learning experience e...

The rationale is the exact same rationale used by Muslim terrorists...enforcement method is the only difference.
All such rigid and legalistic interpretation disgusts and scares me.

Re: Leaving after the final chastising
Hi there! How old are you? If you are 18 and out of high school, can you start taking baby steps towards leaving home and getting out on your own? "Launching" from home is sometimes sort of "wobbly" feeling. Remember that it's perfectly normal for things not to go perfectly as pl...

Re: How does "being in the world, but not of the world" work
I might be the only one here who sees it this way, but I actually find some benefit to that particular scripture. It helps remind me to be intentional about what I involve myself in. Helps me be more mindful of what I personally value, and to avoid things in the world that run counter to those thing...

Guitar Hero, the big difference I see is that being
is truly an honor. Sounds elitist to be so dismissive of someone working hard. In my book, anyone who works hard at any place of employment has my full respect.employee of the month at McDonald's

Re: Deaconship
I have been out of legalism for so long. So all I can say is, "This is just plain silly and ridiculous." Sounds like the ancient debates in Judaism about whether it's ok on the Sabbath to pick up a burning coal and toss it back into the hearth. Just silly.

Re: How does "being in the world, but not of the world" work
The way I think about that phrase in my own life is that I can stand back and view what is going on all around me, and I can separate myself mentally from it in order to view my behavior and motives, and others' behavior. It's just another way of saying, "Pay attention."
