Re: God loves in "spite of" not "because of"

Baxter , thank you for your words. they make sense to me and reflect generally the views I have. I am astonished at how a human can change in an instant with the slightest brain ...

Re: Regrets When It Comes To Leaving

Music Man, yeah, I've got some of those regrets. I remember one woman came up to me and said, "I heard you're visiting the Disciples of Christ denomination." When I confirmed it she said, with a very 'caution, you're about to get hit by a car' look on her face, "Just be very, very car...

It sounds to me like you were in a CoC that is a very tiny percentage of what the majority, mainstream CoC is. It sounds like you were in a very cloistered group that made up a lo...

Re: C of C People Can Be Mean

KLP said: As a young child I was confused by party lines. Seemed like it was always members who lived out in country houses (not the parsonage next to the church bldg.) I could not figure out why the phone would ring and they would say "don't answer that, it's not for us". Or you pick up t...

Re: Church Hymns (and Hers) That Got on Your Nerves

I tend to judge a hymn by the harmony instead of the words. If I like the harmony, I don't really notice or care about the words. I'm in it for the musical feeling, not the content I guess.

Re: was on the old board but it's been awhile

Good to see you.

It's tough to look far and wide beyond traditional interpretations of scripture, but I do hope you'll continue doing so.

Re: Heaven and Hell

I agree that the standard interpretation of life after death sounds horribly boring and unappealing. I tend towards the idea that, upon the functional end of my physical body (including my brain), whatever is "me" is absorbed into "wholeness," "love," "life," ...

illuminator, I just hope that young preacher doesn't have kids. I can't imagine the pain they're in, if he does.
