Re: C of C People Can Be Mean

I used to think people were mean because they were insecure.

I don't think that anymore. I think bullies are generally extremely secure. Smug, as a matter of fact. The power feels really, really good.

Re: Extemporaneous Prayer

B.H. I am interested in knowing what parallels there are to mosque practices, meaning how are services today different from the original services? (I am asking about a typical service in a U.S. city in a version of Islam that is non-violent.)

Re: Extemporaneous Prayer

The benefit to planned prayers, unique to each service, is that they continue the common theme for that day, which is also reflected in the songs, sermon, and comments at the communion table. The continuity of message is extremely helpful to me in learning and growing during that hour of focused hig...

Re: Things We've Taken

It's interesting that 'bible knowledge' seems to be a theme here. Some of the best-spoken and strongest ar...

Re: Things We've Taken

KLP I truly loved your post. That crystal clear clarity is something I share and you worded that perfectly! Bravo!

Re: Hello - Again

I'm glad you're here! I think where you are in your life would be fascinating to discuss with others. You said: I've been "done" with the CoC for a long time, and I'm now done with traditional church. It was actually hard for me to type that. Anyway, this group may not be exactly what I wa...

Re: Things We've Taken

Pros: Pretty good guess that there must be a God. Bible knowledge. Love of singing, especially harmonizing. Cons: Pretty good guess that there must be a God. Readiness to completely write someone off who sounds the least bit fundamentalist...or someone who sounds like they don't think much about rel...

Re: Things We've Taken

Grace said: This is difficult because I want communion every Sunday, a loving God preached, but a more traditional service. You might want to check out Disciples of Christ if you haven't already. We have both a traditional and contemporary service at our church, communion every Sunday (in fact, part...
