Re: Struggling

I had forgotten how important being right is until reading this thread. It really is astonishing what a diversion from reality that is. Only by leaving that pursuit behind can a person really stumble upon the breadth of that which is holy. It is so sad to me that so many well intentioned people miss...

Re: Struggling

It may help you to know that some people who leave do not feel like they were abused, who realize there are hypocrite and arrogant types in all religions, etc., but who simply realized after reading and looking and learning, that it's really not so scary and risky to look outside what they thought t...

Re: Traditional vs Boston Movement

Thank you. I guess need to get a grip on the notion that it was a cult I left 27 years ago. Since I left the Church I always considered myself condemned. It's actually nice to have a glimmer of hope. Oh Scott, you've got FAR more than simply a glimmer of hope...you've got the whole world at your fi...

Re: Struggling

Agricola,

I loved your last line...
There's even a little section on a tiny, mostly Southern, fundamentalist denomination calling itself 'Church of Christ'
That says so much. I remember my deep, deep shock when I discovered how minuscule the Church of Christ movement is.

Re: Struggling

Hi...I'm glad you took a chance and posted here. There are people with all sorts of histories, beliefs, journeys...it's not "one size fits all" on this board, and I've gotten some terrific feedback through the years. Your post was very open, and here's what jumped out at me to be the core ...

Re: Extemporaneous Prayer

That was one of the many things I had to adjust to when I switched denominations. I had never before heard "planned" prayers. Sometimes I think they sound artificial, but much of the time I really find them meaningful.

Re: Hello/Great Site

I'm glad you're here, papaoliver. I'm sorry your wife died...I bet you miss her every single day. What an astonishing story you tell...how reading the Bible through, front to back, in a year, changed everything for you. Wow. I've never heard of a journey like that. I can just imagine your intense fe...

Oh my goodness! That is someone I definitely wouldn't even attempt to have a religion conversation with. Hopeless.

Re: Hi - still a little conflicted.

Hi Matt, I have a friend who has discovered a Church of Christ that suits her perfectly. She is a broad-minded, deep-thinking searcher. As with any church, there are things she agrees with and things she doesn't. But overall it's a good fit for her both practically and theologically. I just wanted t...
