We All Deserve Our Best Chance
We All Deserve Our Best Chance
I am wanting to leave the Church of Christ. I have been wanting to for about a year now. But I am afraid of my parents rejecting me. They have strict views and don't have an open mind. I am struggling with a lot of things and need help and advice. Thanks!

Hi SiSi -
I hope this board can be a resource for you -
How old are you? You speak of parents: if you are still dependent on your parents and still living at home, most of us will strongly urge that you stick it out until you are self supporting or at least out of the house. There are compensating actions you can do to help manage until then - reading and posting on this board is probably one of those.

History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

I am about half way out on my own. I am trying to figure things out. I'm slowly started to ween myself out of the church of Christ.

Well, good luck - and don't be too quick to jump into something else right off. Take a break and breathe a while, and look before you leap.

Welcome. We are here for you! Unfortunately, our board crashed a couple of times recently, and we lost a lot of good older posts. However, there are many people here who have been through similar problems and who have much wisdom.
For me, dealing with my relatives and friends was the scariest part of leaving the COC. It took some time, but the relatives mostly found a way to accept my choice to leave. I did lose numerous friends permanently.

Left the UMC in 2019 based on their decision to condemn LGBT+ persons and to discipline Pastors who perform same-sex marriages
