10 year anniversary of my departure

Post by Wanderer »

Hi, all. I left 10 years ago this month. Some Facebook "memories" popped up that reminded me of that fact, and I got quite emotional. I have to admit, I miss a lot of things about my time in the coc. I have never really felt like I "fit in" in any other church group ever since. I came back here (haven't participated on this site in probably 9 years) to remind me of some of the reasons I left, so that I would not talk myself into going back.

I was baptized as an adult and first started worshipping with an NI group, but spent several years in conservative-leaning "institutional" congregations before my eventual departure.

Hello to all.

Congrats on getting your 10 year pin. I've been out since 2005. Well, that's when we officially left but mentally I began my journey out of the c of c around 1999. Leaving for us was easier than I anticipated and I can honestly say I've never regretted leaving.

That is probably because we were Baptist. We became members of the c of c through a Bible study in 1978. I'm sure since we weren't born into the c of c and had no family members in it, that made it easier to leave.

History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.
