There's one listed in my hometown that has been "out of business" for many years. They closed and sold the building when their preacher was arrested for molesting his grandchildren.

It's interesting to see how many don't make the cut. I see quite a few in CA not listed. I wonder if it has to do with them all not associating with each other. I don't really see a list of criteria used, other than "NICOC". I wonder if it's by application only?

The NICOC has its own good ole boy informal network. If no one in the network knows that a particular church is “sound”, i.e. a cookie cutter version of them, then they are not considered valid and won’t be included in the “find the church” listing. Conversely, if the network informally validates a congregation, then it will be included. Brother So and So’s sister goes there so it must be ok, that sort of thing.
Any church in CA is automatically considered likely apostate. 🤣

I wonder if Muslims have a directory listing "sound" mosques?. Hmmm

I checked out my old churches. The faithful in my home town (Midland, TX) seem to have shrunk to the point of meeting in a small pre-fab steel building, next door to the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The South Austin COC is now meeting in a hotel meeting room. Their old building, which they moved into shortly after I left in 1983, is now a Presbyterian Church!

The coC is in an impossible situation and there is almost no chance for any meaningful long term survival for them. Their inability to evolve will render them extinct in the not so distant future. I give them maybe two more generations. On the other hand, should they give in and change or evolve then there again the coC as we knew it still ceases to exist.

I don't know why but for some reason, the board posted the above comment twice.

There evidently is a CofC church-planting organization called "Kairos". I've looked at their website (cited below), but I note that on the leadership page there are no young adults, just typical looking older CofC people. Another "thing" they are in to is saving dying churches. I don't know, but I don't really see how people who don't have any joy of salvation can do anything to spread the joy of salvation. They don't even seem to base their efforts in God. It's all them and their own efforts. That to me is instant failure from the get-go, just a waste of time, effort, and resources. It's a theological death trap they are in ISTM.

Just curious, did anyone ever find the church*TM anywhere?
