Strange Encounter
Strange Encounter
I took my kids to Mcdonald's play area today.
A child about 9 or 10 came into the play area. Something about her reminded me of me, at her age, especially the way she was dressed, which looked very much like clothing I wore at her age.
Today is Wednesday. Her mom came into the play area and said "come on, hurry, we have church tonight". And then I knew.

Sorta like a flashback, isn't it?
I know and work with people who have to be at Wednesday night services. I haven't gone in years. Taught a Wednesday night class for several years, and my last night teaching was my last Wednesday night to attend. Tired of rushing to get home, freshen up and get to the church, and then trying to get past the "fellowshippers" who wanted to chit-chat, while I just wanted to go home, eat dinner and enjoy a little down time before going to bed.

It put an enormous stress on our life to be in services 3 times a week. And back then, dressing up was required. I am so grateful this is no longer part of my life.Struggler wrote:Sorta like a flashback, isn't it?

Although this mom and little girl I saw were not dressed overly conservative, (in fact, the girl had shorts on), something about her appearance grabbed me, before I even figured out they were C of C. It was almost like an Extra Sensory Perception moment. I thought, "that was me as a child".

Re: Strange Encounter
I am so glad the 3 x a week church thing is gone from my life! I don't mind Sunday morning at all, but Sunday nights and Wednesday nights were horrible. I am sorry we subjected our kids to it.
Re: Strange Encounter
How do you know they were COC? Lots of false doctrine denominations have Wednesday evening services too.

I don't know of any other than C of C, at least not around here, where I live.flawed wrote:How do you know they were COC? Lots of false doctrine denominations have Wednesday evening services too.
Re: Strange Encounter
Ohh I'm in the Bible Belt and just about every denomination advertises their Wednesday services. Definitely not just a COC thing in my area, but they probably still have the monopoly on if you aren't attending that said Wednesday night services then its eternal hell fire for you.
Re: Strange Encounter
Most Baptist churches have a midweek evening service, but not always on Wednesday - plus they don't stress the 'be there every time the doors or open' salvation doctrine.
History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

What were you doing abusing your children by feeding them McDonalds?
The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it.----Karl Marx

They are pretty much addicted to McDonald's food. I'm a vegetarian so eat nothing there.B.H. wrote:What were you doing abusing your children by feeding them McDonalds?
