Ex-Church of Christ Support Board

I wonder if anyone remembers these passages being discussed in the CoC and how they are explained away. I read these passages and am revolted by them. They contradict the common view of Jesus as a good person.

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” Matthew 10:34-37

“If anyone comes to Me, and does not HATE his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:26

Part of these passages may be related to Jesus's family wanting to take custody of him because they thought he was crazy.

It does sound like a message of hate and discord, to be honest.

When I read your heading, I thought you were going to discuss Trump's hateful "Easter message" he posted on his social media.

Thanks, I read his address, not the work of a logical thinking rational person, it is actually frightening.

Bill Maher and others say he is quite logical and sticks to the subject behind the scenes when in discussions. All this disjointed verbal diarrhea is just to mimc and attract his followers who do indeed think like that.

If he's faking worse than he is, that is even more despicable.

I don't think he is faking it at all. He really believes what he says, anyone faking it would do a much better job. He has this simplistic victimized view of the world and politics similar to ones I used to hear at my grandfathers country store in the 60's and 70's. Talk with some older people who believe in the trilateral commission, that the US lost Vietnam because the US was too timid and didn't firebomb the northern cities, and that JFK wasn't killed by Oswald/Patton was murdered by the Russians and you will see the same thinking as Trump. His ideas are based on false beliefs. And his thinking is emotional not rational. I heard Bill Maher's description of his lunch with T and I think as Maher said she regretted having him for lunch and was just humoring Maher and wanting the whole interaction to be over. Maher to him wasn't worth having a discussion with.

I don't think he's faking, either. He really is that
self absorbed person who writes and verbally spews hatred and falsehood.
