Nashville-area congregation adds instrumental music

A place to snark and vent about CoC doctrine and/or our experiences in the CoC. This is a place for SUPPORT and AGREEMENT only, not a place to tell someone their experience and feelings are wrong, or why we disagree with them.

You will find the Catholic and Greek Othodox has the codices to show their presence. How many Greek documents does the Church of Christ have.

'Cause that's what happens when man seeks his own desires rather than the Lord's.

They have guts, good for them. I heard about this on the coc Facebook group page, and the Pharisees are bent. The coc will split hairs and argue to no end about instrumental music and other rules, but don't know Jesus.

And then someone will get upset if a church uses Pepsi instead.

It will have to be caffeine free Coca-Cola. We don't want to cause former coffee addicts to stumble.

Otter Creek has been more "progressive" than many C o Cs for a long time. During my Lipscomb student days(1967-71) the congregation was accused of being "liberal" by some.

I attended some services at Otter Creek during those times and must say they were better than the average C o C fare. The order of service was never the same each Sunday and it was printed in a bulletin given to each person in attendance. Some of the hardliners thought that printing the order in a bulletin was "denominational."

Otter Creek now occupies the former Brentwood Baptist Church complex. In its former location Otter Creek had no room to expand. The Baptists built a much larger complex down the road, so Otter Creek bought their building.

Last week I was looking at the website of another C o C in Brentwood. The first page of its weekly bulletin was dedicated to bashing Otter Creek for adding an instrumental service.

I'm glad to see them move ahead with this..and admire them because they'll be taking a lot of criticism from the old hardliners.
