History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

Yes, I did. It really is not my nature to be argumentative, and I regret writing my intro post without editing. Recalling the situation with anger, I suppose. Though I didn't "leave the church", the church left me and I'm OK with that now.
