Exactly moogy...when you feast so richly on the word each week you realize the praychers office is the real kitchen. (I think I just lost my appetite)

Lev - you reminded me of situation that arose that caused a stink. A few men would take the Lord's Supper to the shut-ins, either at their house or at the nursing home and let them partake. Some objected because we weren't coming together for that purpose. Same folks who thought it was wrong to take on Sunday nights because the whole group wasn't doing it together. Some people actually left the group because of this.

Local building codes and ADA are going to specify a number of things. NT says to abide by the law and to submit to authorities. Also, Jesus told his disciples to "go", and so it is expedient to have a place to go.

Not very accurate. It still lists a congregation in my old hometown which has been closed for years. It closed the doors when their praycher was caught molesting his grandchildren.

GOOD GRIEF

In my meager experience these lists are usually antiquated, and basically inaccurate from the start ... definitely not to be trusted.

The Lord's Supper was always the most important part of the entire service. Some people would have to leave early for work or something on occasion, but they wouldn't dare to leave before the LS. They'd get the bit of cracker, drink of grape juice, then it was ok for them to go. I feel that most COC congregations have had some evening LS uproar from at least one member. We had a few members that would actually get up and walk out on Sunday evenings during the second serving of the LS because they thought it was unscriptural. They would walk back in when it was over and everything was fine. And I've heard of congregations that had literally split over the LS on Sunday evening issue. Such a silly thing to get so worked up over. But then again when your church teaches that one little misinterpretation of even one scripture will earn you eternity in hell, that's what happens. Don't want to risk going to hell because someone took a bit of cracker and grape juice on a Sunday night while you just sat there and did nothing...

My dad was sort of "non sunday school" on the evening LS. One place we were at had LS in a back room after the invitation song but during the closing song and announcements. My dad raised a stink about Acts 20:7 where the church came "together" to partake...therefore no authority for a sub-group meeting....which is the argument for those Non Sunday School odd birds.

This discussion of churches splitting reminded me of a pretty good/funny video by Rick Atchley:

Stop calling the non-sunday schoolers odd birds or I'll have to challenge you to offically debate me on the subject. You liberal digressive non-institutionals don't have the truth and it needs to be show to you. Have a sunday school today, have a woman preacher tomorrow, and then invite the Baptist preacher to be the guest speaker a week after that. That's how it goes folks.
