And I have it on good authority the History Channel doesn't make this stuff up. History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

The theory God is actually some sort of advanced space alien started in the late 1800's. The theory went more mainstream as a science fiction theme with the 1950's British show Quartermass and the Pitt. Erich von Dainikken wrote a bunch of books trying to prove that was actually the case back in the 60's and 70's. When the flying saucers started appearing back in the late 40's a lot of folks wanted to argue they were the same thing as "Ezekiels Wheels" im Ezekiel chapter 1-3.
